NOTES
Kazuaki Kiriya’s second work “GOEMON” is a film which is most talked about among movies in 2009 as a super action entertainment with actors who lead the current Japanese film world such as Yosuke Eguchi, Takao Osawa, and Ryoko Hirosue as well as with overwhelming view of the world and cinematographic beauty. Set in the Sengoku era (period of Civil Wars in Japan), the story is carefully organized with new interpretation. Characters do not wear a topknot. Instead, exotic costume as well as fortress-like Osaka Castle and Azuchi Momoyama Castle created by making full use of digital technology are employed. An amazing world that completely overturns common concept dominates the film on a magnificent scale.

| Profile | Born in Kumamoto in 1968. Moved to the U.S. in 1983 at the age of 15. Graduated from Cambridge High School in New York and went to the environmental design department of Parsons School of Design. Started activities as a photographer in 1994 based on New York. Worked on CD covers of various artists such as SMAP, MISIA, and Southern All Stars. Attracted attention with music videos such as Hikaru Utada’s “FINAL DISTANCE.” Made a debut as a film director in 2004 with “CASSHERN.” This film is the new work for the first time in five years. He is currently making multiple Japanese and non-Japanese movies. |
